Handbook 7
"Monitoring of the Quality of Life in LUDA"

This handbook puts a focus on monitoring quality of life in large urban distressed areas. It introduces basic concepts of monitoring quality of life in areas of urban regeneration and the methodology developed in LUDA Project. This handbook deals with questions such as:

  • What is monitoring?
  • What means monitoring of quality of life in urban regeneration?
  • What are current challenges of monitoring quality of life in urban regeneration?

Current European examples on monitoring quality of life are presented on the city level and on the sub-city level. Basing on the analysis of these examples the question is answered what can be learnt from these approaches when elaborating a system for monitoring quality of life in LUDA. Furthermore a solution of the till now unsolved problems is advanced by delivering detailed guidelines on how to elaborate a system for monitoring quality of life in LUDA. The guidelines are backed by pilot testing the methodology in Dresden.

As the construction of a system for monitoring quality of life in LUDA always depends on the specific local circumstances the guidelines are presented in form of a toolbox proposing several alternative methods for each step. Further monitoring methods are to be found in Handbook 5.
